  • Nuwarra Eliya: also known as “little England” it’s a land of peace and silence. The town is decorated with buildings ranging in style from Georgian to Queen Anne. The town is home to great parks and 18-hole golf course. A visit to Nuwara-Eliya provides great access to UNESCO World Site of Horton Plains National Park, which is undoubtedly one of the world’s best natural reserves. The plains located at 2,134 metres above sea level and spanning 10,000 hectares. The park is home to a wide variety of flora and many mammal species such as elk, deer, giant squirrel, wild bore, porcupine and leopard. The Plains also features many interesting attractions such as Bakers Falls, Chimney Pool and famous Worlds End (a 3700 feet sheer drop that offers fabulous views of the tea estates below).

 

  • Kandy: Nestled amidst luxuriant green hills, intersected by the Mahaweli River. The beautiful Kandy lake acts as centre piece for the town. Kandy is certainly the most picturesque city in the island and one of the most visited by locals and tourists. Kandy is the home to the last seat of the Sinhalese Kings, who ceded power to the British in 1815 after many a battles with the western colonial forces. Kandy still retains much of its old world charm and traditions. Centre of the Kandy is home to Dalada Maligawa, which is houses, the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha. Locals and tourist bearing flowers and incense visit the golden roof temple throughout the day. Here visitors can observe poojas, (offerings) the ancient traditions of drumming and sacred chanting in honour of the Tooth Relic. All these activities are performed several times each day.
